My first works.
Hi everyone.
I seem to have this itchy bite mark on my hands, and the only thing i can attribute it to is this little bug that bit me a few weeks ago. Yes, i reckon the scroll saw bug has bitten me pretty hard!...
I am amazed at some of the things this little piece of machinery in the right hands is capable of and the works i have seen on this site are definitely among some of the finest examples i have seen in my travels around the world wide web in search of every tidbit of information i can lay my eyes on to do with this subject!!
One of my favorite things to do is gaming, and seeing all these wonderful patterns and ideas makes me think that in order to keep this awesome art-form alive for future generations to try i need to incorporate into it some of the cultural references that appeal to people my age and younger and hopefully more will decide to take up this fun and rewarding hobby.
As a technical drawing fan I would like to make some of my own patterns that will hopefully be a bit more contemporary and would like very much to first find out from other scrollers if this is a no-no or if creative freedom is encouraged by all?
I had a Ryobi scroll saw and that has been serving me well enough but i bought another one the other day and the quality doesn't even compare! The only thing standing in the way of faster progress for me now is this silly little thing called work...
I would also like to know if any of the South Australian scrollers are members of any clubs or groups who get together regularly? As i think that being a part of a community of like minded individuals is important when it comes to keeping these kinds of things alive!
so far i have made more than a few cuts into timber with my scroll saw, but don't really have anything i want to show here apart from these two photos. One sits in my kitchen now and the other was a wedding gift for my sister who got married last week!

Hi Charl
I really feel that plans and blueprints are only there as inspiration. Lots of people do their own things with scrollsaws. They tend to adapt ideas,
You're lucky to live in a city. South Australia has a fantastic number of different artists and craftsmen who work in wood. There are a number of regional and local clubs for like minded people. I only wish we had something like that in the Riverina. It's so stimulating to work with others and to see others' work. It really provides the stimulus for continuing personal growth, as well as being a jolly good time talking with others who know what you do and value your experiences.
Look up Woodgroup SA on Google and then look at clubs. The South Oz Scrollers have some fantastic work. The gallery photos give you some sort of idea as to what range of things people do.
Keep up the good work. The two pieces you have shown are both lovely.
Cheers
LiliB
