Love the names on the frames.... now if I were just confident with a router ....... something I really have to force myself to learn ....... one of these days...

Juvy, would you give more of your very valued advice again, please?

I was planning on cutting the names with the scrollsaw. Would that not be correct, please?

Hope you and yours are well. Best wishes.

Awwww...... thanks , but I'm sure you know those names are cut with a scroll saw, at least... I wouldn't know of any other way to do that. Guess you could use a coping saw.

Since I know squat about joinery ( I tried mitered frames several times and miserably failed - they never go together without gaps) I'd even cut the frames on the scroll saw, as long as they aren't too big...
Anytime I can avoid joinery..... I will

Thanks for replying, Juvy. Five minutes after I posted my question it hit me that you may not be referring to the names when you mentioned the router.

Yep..... just like it hit me..... the frame of course IS scroll sawn.... what I meant was I would do it in one piece, without mitering the corners..... then cut another piece with a larger "hole" to glue onto the back to make the recess for pictures or glass..

Yes.... I meant the router for the base

thanks.... I get Steve's newsletter since a few years now.... didn't remember the frames...
I do know how to make the base.... but I do not have use of a router, so have to make do with what I have.
Back to the names.... you can add any of the available free fonts you can find on line... even using just word... you can let word give you just outlines... print them out and move them around untnil they fit.
Personally... I love using photoshop for lettering..... endless possibilities! You can move them around, stretch them, widen them, distort them etc..... could waste a lot of time on playing around with letters.... one of my fav things to do

The main reason that I got into scrollsawing is that I cannot cut anything straight. Joined picture frames are a disaster for me. I cut them out of one piece.

    Love the kids.

that scroll saw is perfect for that.... and you don't even have to worry about perfectly straight lines inside the frame.... nothing wrong with being a bit creative and making them wavy on purpose! Probably would add a bit of interest On the outside you can always sand those sides straight unless you go for the wavy look there too
    Gotta love that saw!
