Please advice!!
Hi
I am looking for a new scroll saw. Looking at this forum, I know that delta is a good (excellent) saw but since I am new to this and don't know whether I like it or not, Therefore can not justify $295 at Carbatec for it.
I am confused between Two.
One sold by Gasweld It is 16" Cast Iron, Single speed, Uses blades with pins, 1/8 HP (about 95w), table tilt from 1 to 45.
for $109.
Questions about it
1. Is variable speed really used (or as Timbecon site says "Variable speed is of little importance for cutting wood")??
2. Has any one used any of Gasweld Saws? How good are they? Any comments?
3. Has any one used any adapter for pinless baldes? From where and for how much Can I get it?
and GMC 200 W, 400-1600 SPM, Table Size 420 x 270 mm
16", 0° to 45° Left and Right, Stroke Length 15 mm, Blade Change Tool-free,
Pin Type Saw Blade (Though manual says it can hold both pinless and pin type blades) sold for $148 at bunnies,

I wanted to try scrolling, about 18 months ago, and bought a Ryobi at Bunnings for $99. It's certainly not comparible to a good make, but it did allow me to try scrollwork. So far it has done the job for me, and if I get further into scrolling later on, then I'll buy a better saw. I fitted it with pinless adapters from WMS, and from memory they were $30 something. If you want to try anything that needs piercing cuts, like portraits, then they are mandatory.
In my opinion, and I am no expert, you need the variable speed. Particularly, as you are learning.Chris

Thanks for your reply!! I bought it from Carbatec Model RSS-16V.
Just One question though, The guy there said that it only takes Pin blades but the manual says it can take both pin and pin less blades. Has any one has any experience with using pinless blades on this one??

don't know about that particular model, but I do know you can get conversion kits. These basically convert the saw to be able to take the pinless blades. Its an easy 30 sec conversion
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.
