No It is an ordinary 1.5 mm wide blade. I have to confess though I bought Carbatec Saw earlier and ran it with out wood at home Did not like it at all so SWMBO while looking at me not liking this saw ordered that I return "this crap" and buy Delta. Well, She is SWMBO (She who must be obeyed) . So, it is done on Delta with original Blade as that is the only blade I have so far.

Dust maker, from what i can see of portraits you need to make careful detail to eyes, nose, mouth jawline etc.

From what i can see you seem to have captured the essence of the man and that is all important.

If you want very close evaluation you could post a photograph of your dad along side the scrolled image.

I like what you have done.

Your SWMBO has good taste in scrollsaw too.

You should get yourself a range of scrollsaw blades too from mikes scrollsaw blades - do a search here you'll find him - he is in USA but postage and service is fine on such a small item.

Good work - it will look great once mounted with the black backdrop.

I'm far from an expert, a recent scroll saw 'junkie' but I've found I like the wooden portraits. Trouble is I have difficulty doing the patterns. I have to ask and get a good response. Would tell you where I go but don't like to advertise another forum on this one. Willing to let you know privately, if it's allowed.

As for blades... wouldn't bother buying overseas.... I buy mine by the gross from Harris Traders right here. They are the best prices and service you could want... I can e-mail them one day and most times 2 days later they arrive at my door.

Hello Dust Maker, and anyone else.
Re. my previous posting, by the way I liked your cut Dust Maker, we are off to UK sometime soon and I want to take a scroll saw portrait of a friend. As I mentioned I've yet to get the hang of portrait pattern making but I know where I can get them done, for FREE. Last evening I sent a request, with a picture, and this morning when I logged on there were patterns.
I'll attempt to show the picture I sent and the two patterns here.
Thought it might be of interest.

By the way, as I'm still 'finding my way' I use 3mm Bunnings ply (not the best I know) and 2/0 spirals (tend to end up with quite a bit of fuzz in the cuts but they clean up with a butane burner).

Making your own patterns really isn't as difficult as you think ....
even a free program like Irfanview will let you do it...
To start.... in any photo/paint program..... change your colour photo to black ond white - then up the contrast... depending on the quality of the photo you're already mostly there..... you will have to clean up a bit , make sure you have no floaters.... Irfanview doesn't let you paint over... but the more involved programs let you do that on the computer.

Another way that sometimes works is to "find edges" after you converted to black and white... different things work on different photos.
