    Cool First Project Show N Tell (and second) WIPs

    Ok so hopefully this is the right spot to post this...

    I was rather impressed when my scroll saw arrived, and hurridly looked around for simple patterns to give something a go.. rather than random circles etc..
    I decided on two things.. (as i can never do one at a time lol)
    So i made up a set of dragon play toys, (which we have changed from original, and are turning it into a mobile for the grandaughter)
    and a guitar clock.. as of course everyone needs one !! and i fell in love with it..

    And im super excited at how much fun I had. this is going to become an addictive hobby..
    Ive been doing pyrography for a few years now, so now i can make my own things to draw on

    I will say, as our sheds in a bit of a mess at the moment, and its stinking hot.. i did move into my computer room (lino floor) with the scroll saw to do these..
    and found it wasnt that hard to clean up.

    The only issue i found i had.. was my pressure foot.. (i think thats what youd call it) vibrating down.. which became harder to push the mdf through..
    may have to research that a bit more..

    So without further ado.. here are my very first scroll saw works ..
    obviously im up to sanding.. cleaning, and painting.. I will add photos of that in this thread when complete

    The dragons were alot easier than i thought they would be.. and it was a great project for a first one...
    and the guitar clock, I have changed, due to using mdf which i cant woodburn on.. I have added a piece of hoop pine, that I will woodburn the numbers (or musical notes) on..

    Mind you,after watching the second installment of "The Hobbit" yesterday

    Nice work. I just picked up my scroll saw from bunnies yesterday. My first effort wasn't as good as yours but then again it was 50C in the shed and late in the afternoon...if you get my meaning. As for the foot, I read a review on the Ryobi and this guy said to "throw it in the garbage", so I did.

    You're off to a good start Kym. Another addict.

    I got sick of the foot getting in the way on mine too, and took it off long ago.
    Without a foot, though, you have to be careful to always hold the workpiece down firmly or the blade will grab it and it will jump up and down alarmingly. It's easy to get used to, and much easier to negotiate curves without it in the way.

    Nice work Kym you are off to a great start. Get rid of the foot. Take care with the dust from the MDF it is dangerous stuff.

    thanks re : the foot..
    my husband suggested the same thing... im a little wary.. maybe when i get a little more "learned" i might take it off.. for now i just leave it up higher than normal.. so its there.. but its not.. THERE> lol.

    got a few more projects planned/ready to cut. got sidetracked with some cooler weather so got stuck into some backyard maintence..
    next the shed, so i can make more room.
    I do use a dust mask/headgear (only because woodwork has been known to make me cough in the past)
    but not safety glasses.. i should. but i have the cover over the blade area.. and i wear glasses for reading / working, so i suppose they are safety glasses.

    I have a friend who has a dust box, which my machine would fit into.. and then attaches to a vacum cleaner.. going to have a look at that next week..
