Default the reason why I like this saw

Just got this photo , didn't realize until I saw it how many scrollers in our club own Delta saws! Also didn't realize for the first time ever we had 4 women that morning... usually we are way outnumbered by the men.
This was one of the few Wednesday mornings most members came....

Seems we sit according to saw colour.... lol all the Delta's to the right.... all the Hegners to the left ( behind the photographer, so you can't see them.... there were 3 that day) then there is one yellow Dewalt, but he wasn't there that morning.

And if you look close there's one imposter between the Deltas! lol

With so many Delta owners no wonder I like it so much... there is always someone who knows how to fix any problem.

Look at all that bad posture many have not made their table to suit themselves at their ages (and mine) comfort is more important than looking like a hunch back from Notre-dame.

you were supposed to look at the SAW not us! lol
Most of us cut the legs of the tables so they sort of tilt a little towards us, makes it easier to see what we're cutting, specially with bigger patterns. Don't know if that helps or hinders good posture.

Here I thought I'd inspire folks to start a scroll saw club.... and you look at posture instead? lol

I bought a Delta scroll saw off ebay. Model 40-540. It has proved a very good tool for my purposes.

I think the upper blade clamp is starting to wear though. All of a sudden I'm starting to see the blades come out of the top clamp. QUite irritating.

Are there aftermarket blade clamps available for it?

I just had that happen to mine...... to the new one.... the old one's 4 years old and I never had that problem.
We were lucky.... found a quick fix.... don't know yet how long it will last tho.
Unscrewed the tension screw on top.... filed the bottom straight and put it back in.... it worked fantastic ..... for a day... then it slipped the minute I turned the saw on....

Next we wanted to find out if it was the screw or the pin underneath it so we just switched it with the one from the old screw .... and what do you know? Not a problem with the old one.... then just for kicks screwed the tenstion screw form the new saw into the old one and it also worked..... no idea why .... but I'm not complaining... lol

Anyway.... try filing the bottom straight and see if that'll do the trick.

As for spare parts over here.... you'll have to find second hand saws... other wise you'll have to order from overseas. Most of the things that go wrong with the Delta can be fixed tho....so far never had to go and order anything.

    Good luck

Try replacing the little bolt in the clamp with a high tension bolt. Then replace the thumb nut with a self locking nut. You will need a small spanner to adjust it but that isn't a problem when you get used to it. Cost would be abpot $5 all up.

The reason for the self locking nut is that when opening and closing the clamp the nut works loose. It doesn't with the self locking nut because it can't

My saw's tension stopped working again after a few days of use.... found the quick remdey is to just unscrew it partly and then screw it back in... that seems to settle it for a while each time.. so it definately needs squaring off at the bottom ( when Ken gets around to it)
I did notice a colour difference ... the old screw is gold coloured and still fine after 4 years of hard work...... the new one is silvertone..... chances are the difference in materials used is what's causing the problem. I think our first saw was still made in the US, this second one was made in Malaysia..... I think....

Still..... when it's working it's great

    Hi Maria,
Best bet is your local woodworkers club... there usually are scroller and lots of help available.

just googled it, there is one in Geelong
..... this is what it says.. info is from 2007 , tho names may have changed, might be in your phone book tho.
