Revisiting the past!
Bought a scrollsaw a couple of years ago and enjoying it. As a schoolboy, in England, I dabbled a bit, not much, and had one of those metal cutting tables (cramped onto a table) and the name 'Hobbies' was well known - never had enough to buy the magazines although I remember writing to them once for a boat plan (which was never made!). Last year we went back for a wedding and being near Norfolk called into Hobbies and bought a couple of 'Hobbies Original Fretwork Plans'. The instructions, whilst adequate, are couched in phrases that are a bit antiquated now so I guess the originals were done in the 1920s/30s. I have done a clock, attached, and the instructions said "suitable for a 30 hour clock" . I used a modern day quartze insert, 70mm diameter.
Height about 370mm (15ins) x a width of 200mm (8ins). Marri, 5mm thick, with a jarrah base. Glueing up was a bit of a problem. I like the result, not perfect but lessons learnt (I hope). WMS saw.
My wife says she wouldn't give it house room but you can't please all the time!!
Regards,
Bob H.

Keep the clock, ditch the wife.
"Wouldn't give it house room" ?? If it wasn't for her impeccable choice of husband, you'd have to say that all her taste is in her mouth.

It does look good but then you have a little closer look and then think of it a bit then think a little bit more and then say well....
It does look good.

My Dad started me on one of those saws where you had to clamp a little table to the workbench... poor man.... wouldn't want to know how many blades he had to buy..... I was only about 6-7... my brother 10..... but made me love wood forever.
I can appreciate all the work you put into that clock and you have every right to be very proud of it.... but being another female.... well.... I'd have to side with your wife..... it's just too hard to keep those clocks dusted!
I much rather spend my time making sawdust!
They do look impressive tho....

Spray it with ANTI-STATIC.
Someone will buy it, if it is offered up as hand made, one of, suit home restorer.
Then use the money to buy an even better saw and more plans from the 1920's.Buzza.

I agree with Buzza..... someone would buy it for sure. Lots of people like these clocks . ( there are a lot of compulsive housecleaners out there lol)
On the other hand... don't sell it right away. I find that letting something go that took a lot of work is much easier ones you enjoyed it for a while.
So compromise .... your wife has to live with it in the house for a few months ( chance she'll forget all about it??? - as long as YOU dust.. lol) and then you consider selling.
