    Default Ryobi at Mitre 10

Now that Ryobi have an exclusive deal with Bunnings, local Mitre 10 stores seem to be divesting themselves of all Ryobi stock as quickly as possible. Today, at my local Mitre 10 (Wallington, near Geelong), all remaining Ryobi products seem to be at about half recommended retail price. For example, a Ryobi Scrollsaw, Model ESW1240RK, with flexible drive and accessory kit is $115.OO. It is supplied in the original box which is still shrink-wrapped. It's original price seemed to be around the $200 mark but I'm not sure of that. Anyway, it seems a good price, and they have at least one remaining.

Do we have any retailers in the forum? I'm curious about why companies discount so deeply just because they won't stock an item in future ... surely the tool is just as valuable today as it was yesterday, and a less steep discount would still sell?

I'm not a retailer, but there seems to be a fair bit of anger in the local Mitre 10 that is aimed squarely at Ryobi. I suspect that they don't want to have Ryobi products 'on display' and thus given ongoing advertising. I also assume that even at the reduced prices a profit is still being made.

It would not surprise me if there is a certain date that they are not allowed to sell Ryobi stock past. I am guessing they may also want to clear it quickly to make room in the inventory system and display area for the stock they will be carrying into the future.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".
