For that little money it has to be somewhat sus.
A closer look shows pretty flimsy plastic knobs etc so you might need to be prepared to replace these early on in the piece.
The Ad title says 300W but the blurb says 250W but that will be input watts and being such a small motor the actual output will be something like 150W which is typical of these small sanders.

Still the price is tempting given that something like a Wen costs about 3.5X that price and the latest model don't look 3.5x better.
I', unsure if the Wen comes in a 240V model or not.

Not all the chinese stuff is crap - but you will usually get what you pay for.

You might be better off with a branded product like a Rikon which looks identical to the Wen - it wouldn't surprise me if they were the exact same machines.

The Rikon )including shipping) is 2X more than the cheapie but I would be more comfortable purchasing the Rikon.
The ebay seller of the Rikon also has a 99.9% seller rating which is worth something.

Thanks Bob. I’ve taken your advice and ordered the Rikon which looks like it’s from a reliable source. At least that way I’ve got someone to call if it has a hiccup. We’re not exactly spoilt for choice like our northern friends unfortunately.

I’ve often thought about getting something similar.

An total agree we are a little short for selection when it comes too machinery hear.

Hobbytools have been around for a long time so if they still have a 99.9% satisfaction rating they must be doing something right. Rikon do make quite nice gear.

I finally got around to unpacking the machine today. Just a couple of things I noticed upon assembly:

great service from Hobby Tools Australia.

- it’s tiny prob fit in a box 300mm3 but seeing as it’s only meant for small stuff should suit.
- only really suited for objects about 200 or 300 mm2.
- the usual Chinese “quality” but hopefully if I’m gentle it’ll be ok.
- fired it up and it goes pretty quick so a speed control would be nice, so one smoother grade of paper will be the norm.
- usual scales for angles which will need double checking for accuracy.
- fairly quiet, won’t need ear muffs
- I think it only has dust port on disc not the belt.

I haven’t used it yet, fingers crossed. I’ll try to remember to put up some pictures tomorrow, for scale so you’se can see the size. And I’ll double check for dust ports.
