    Gday riain.

Welcome to the forums. You will find heaps of usefull info and help here as I have done.

I just bought the Ryobi from Bunnings for around $189. Its a good solid unit and the best in the sub $200 range.

I also bought some "spiral" scroll saw blades on ebay which allow you to cut in all directions. Good for a beginner like me, though depending on size make a wider cut than regular blades.

Where do you live? I am in the Hunter region NSW and looking to sell mine once my project is over.

My advice would be to look around dont just buy the first one you see or is recomened find out if there is a club near you it may be a wood working club ,check the eas of use including being able to use pinless blades i wont name brands as i maye get in bother but some use a 2block system withgrub screws to fix the blade and they are very frustrating I have modifide 3 saws to make them easyer mine included and it wasnt a cheap modle, hope this gives you somthing to think about wecome to the forum we can all learn a lot and happy scrolling and toy making.

    Cheers Ian
