Thanks so much everybody for the positive feedback. I have gotten such a great response from these baskets and I hope I can continue to make projects that people really like.

Dcooper, these are my own designs. I've been working with Sheila Landry (contributing editor of Creative Woodworks and Crafts magazine) for a couple years now and we sell our patterns at www.sheilalandrydesigns.com

Johnakated, you've mentioned ASSN contests a couple times. I looked online to see if I could find any info about contests but all I found is contact information. Did you mean that I should submit this project?

The organisation that I referd to is the "Australian Scroll Saw Network" (ASSN).
They hold a National Exhibition each 2 years. We have introduced a "Super Foot " competition in the intervening year. 2011 is the first of these. Briefly the rules are that a scroll sawn project must be made from a solid piece of timber 1 super foot in volume, and no other material can be added except hardware such as hinges, fasteners and clock movements.
Judging will be from photographs submitted.
Unfortunately entry is limited to members. My remark was to draw their attention to this maybe being a suitable entry project.

Here's another basket I've recently completed. This one is done out entirely out of maple. The slats were from a particularly dark piece of maple heartwood I found laying around. Like the majority of the baskets, I just used mineral oil for the finish This one just might be my favorite so far.

That is great Keith, I think I have to agree with you I think it is a notch above the rest even though the others are brilliant, well done

    I call this basket "Iris".

This one's made with jatoba and cherry, finished with just mineral oil. The jatoba looked quite unimpressive until I oiled it. I think I lucked out in my wood choices because these two look so nice together after being oiled. The color in the photos don't do it justice at all... They are both much more orange than the pics show.
