Thread: Scroll saw blades

I have some of those.....Called Pegas? Made in Switzerland? I use the Modified Geometry and the double skip tooth on occasion also...The DT ones mostly for compound cutting and/or cutting plexi glass where you don't want nor need the reverse teeth. The Pegas Modified Geometry blades cut fast and are aggressive like the Flying Dutchman blades are but the Pegas track better in my opinion. I don't use either of those two brands when I cut thinner wood....1/8" or 1/4". They tend to get away from me and I don't feel as though I have control over them till the dull up a bit. I do like them for 1/2" and 3/4" wood though or a very hard wood.....#2R #3R and #5R is what I tend to use the most in blade sizes....You need to get a dozen of different brands and sizes to try out and make your own decision on what works for you....That is how I did it. The brand I personally like best for thinner wood is Olsen brand...They aren't as agressive.....I go thru more blades when I use them but don't have any problem control them in the thin wood...I also use them in the thicker woods at times also...Still I go thru more blades with that brand but feel I have total control of where I'm cutting.

I recently got some Pegas #7 and #9 blades for compound work, but I havent had time to give them a try yet.

I love those MODIFIED GEOMETRY blades! I do a lot of puzzles in 3/4" pine and I use the #5 for that....they work great. Leave nice smooth sides too. Some of the other scrollers don't seem to fond of them .... they do the small fretwork and find them too aggressive. I also bought #7 and #9..... haven't tried 9 yet, but 7 worked great on a piece of 3/4" blackwood where the 5 was still having a bit of a problem.

All depends on what wood you use and what kind of pattern you are planing on cutting and like Lin said, a lot of the time simply on what you prefer.. you just have to try a blade yourself.

Im just tryin to find the bloody adapters so I can change the friggin blade!! :eek: See when I bought the thing I sorta forgot to buy blades at the time and now its over a year later and I am trying to have a go with the wee thing so I thought okay goin to carbetex get some blades and go for my coit... got the blades Joe recommended... straight no pin type... whats in the machine? duhhh pin type... so I find the book which says theres an adapter thingy in the bag that comes with it... mmm yeah uhhuh riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... see bein as its over a year since I bought the thing and seeing as we did have this major wash they called a flood and seeing that its been out of its box in its box out of its box several times and moved from the seatainer to the humpy to the seatainer to the new ubeaut shed... IVE NO FRIGGIN IDEA where the little plastic bag that came with it is let alone what the little gadget accessory thingy looks like that will let me use the non pin type blades Ive just bought :mad:

I did try to keep all things sorta together but couldnt resist setting some of them up which meant opening little plastic bags left right and centre which now means although I believe its out there somewhere I have no bloody idea what Im lookin for!!! yeah its a little thingy... so are the many many things from the incra fence the jointer the planer the saw the bandsaw the lathe the other bloody tools Ive just set up aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhh!!!

BUT... on the bright side... I have had a wee play and although not amounting to anything at all showed me I kinda like the little gadget thats so dainty and sexy sittin on me new big ball burster of a bench Once I work it all out and find or buy those adapter thingys I can see much joy coming from that wee widdle machine

Well Juvy you must have a monster one is all I can say!! :eek: I AM talking about the scroll saw here!! strewth yous blokes get yer mind above the navel eh!!

Ohh she hammers away alright fair dances a jig across the bench in fact... mmm must bolt her down one of these days I did that to the missus years ago bolted her down and she doesnt drift too far from the homefront even after all these years so I reckon if I bolt this wee sexy machine down it will also stick around for a fair few years eh!! ...but still shes small curvy and oooh so sweet sorta like the missus eh? and with a tad of sharpness shes almost the spittin image!

The wee gadget thingy is the adapter so the blasted machine will take the pinless blades... Im buggared if I can find it... then again I have no idea what it looks like either so Im sorta stuffed before I start eh!!

Now just to help you out a tiny bit... maybe... found a pic of a set of adaptors.. no not yours, but should be something in that direction.

As for my Delta and it's ( hers? his?) temperamental jackhammer noises.. The saw's not bolted down, sits on a piece cut off from one of those rubbermats for the router.... on top of a supercheap foldable workbench... so it has lots of room to roam about.... then cutting a 3/4 + piece of timber and off she goes...... Gives you a good wrist workout.

But see I gotta at least TRY to look as thought I know SOMETHING about what Im talking about an thats where your pic steps up mind you I will be heading out to the shed in a minute and knowing me now Im planning a short detour to Carbetec Im bound to find the thing!! maybe I can hide it?

You're sooo lucky to have one of them close enough ... we can only mail order I feel deprived. On the other hand, probably would be broke by now if there was one within walking distance lol

Me thinks inside your head your brain has decided you really need to visit the "Toy" place again so you unintentionally "misplaced" the thingy.......
But really....how small is this scrollsaw? Stand and all mine has some size to it and isn't something I move around myself much....just nudge or two if it get moved to a spot on the concrete the makes it jiggle...when it runs....Pic of one of my saw is my "avatar"...just being curious....
