Which scroll saw to buy?
Hi everyone
I am thinking of getting a new saw soon and ask for help as to which one. I cannot afford a Hegner unfortunately. I am told a Delta would be the best to buy but have heard over the forums that it is no longer sold in Australia.
Your comments most appreciated.

The Trupro is a Hegner look-alike and a very good saw for the money. They are about $500 and available from Carroll's. I have had quite a few saws, a Delta among them, and I have to say that the Trupro is the best I have had, by far! They are also sold under other names, W.M.S. and Carbotech. You will have to get clamps from Hegner in the UK (the Trupro ones leave a bit to be desired), but that is quick and easy.
Hope this helps

I had the Delta 20" saw which was a good saw, but it got damaged when I was moving house once. I have used the 16" Delta which is a good saw for the money, but the blower system annoyed me in that it did not provide adequate air to blow away the dust and you would have to undo it each time to move it out of the way to thread the blade through the holes. I now use a variable speed WMC as Noel stated, I find it a great saw and at a fraction of the price of a Hegner. Hegner enthusiasts will say it doesnt compare to the Hegner, but I have not found any fault with the saw. However I did change the top and bottom blade clamps, the bottom one to a plain clamp the you need a clock key to tighten and the top clamp is a thumb screw version. You can order the clamps in Australia here http://www.thewoodworks.com.au/produ...AW-HEGNER.html

Which saw to buy
Thanks very much Brett & Noel, I will certainly look into that when I buy one and will let you know. I was looking at the Carbatec one (Hegner look alike) and didn't mind it. We can go to Carbatec and get it when the money comes. I will also get the clamps.

I agree with Brett on the blower system on the Delta..... but our guys at the club solved that one real quick.... we all bought aquarium pumps and our resident electrician wired them so they come on when we turn the saw on..... add a flex thingie .. hose? lol..... from Harris Traders and you're all set.
I found most saws have the blower direct the air towards your face.... kind of silly.... so the flex hose helps directing it away ...... need to get another one since I have the new Delta and can't wear my dust mask .... have to keep blowing dust away.... not good... used to my old system... need to get the old work horse fixed!

Just a reminder that Hegner are now again fully represented in Australia and New Zealand. Ask us for any Hegner sales, spares or support.
