new to scroll sawing
Hi all,
i am new to scroll sawing and need some help on what scroll saw to buy. I am happy to pay up to about $600 for a new scroll saw but as i live in australia there seems to be a limited choice.
from what i have been able to see i have two options
A dewalt or a carba tec 18".

I have used the carba tech 18" and it works well, I have not seen a Dewalt as yet.
I use a Delta myself, but they are no longer available.

Hi,
Try a search of this forum for some similar questions, such as "What to buy' just a couple of clicks down from your query.
Best of luck,

I'd say it depends on your pocket book.
There are the Excalibur ( which is just like the Dewalt) , the german made Hegner which some consider the Cadillac of scroll saws - it comes in different price ranges ( carbatec is a look alike - just different colour) and the Proxxon, also german made... there seem to be two models... one is more for fine work and models, the other a regular one. A friend of ours bought the smaller ( cheaper too) one and was suprised to find that at just 2.8 kg it had no vibration.... I can't wait to see it for myself!
I myself still llike my two Deltas... even tho the last one I bought likes to overheat... can't run it full speed more then a few minutes... great for winter.... built in heater! lol

It doesn't say where you are but it may be worth checking out the woodworking clubs in your area.
I know at the Geelong show last weekend somebody was selling a Excalibur for $800 ($1195 new) and in Ballarat last year there was somebody selling a Hegner for around $500.
