30th December 2008, 10:51 AM #16... you have to remember that not everyone can afford a fully equipped workshop
I DID know about the finger/dovetail joints, but not the baskets. I'm just now starting to explore the scroll saw, so I'm still a ways away from that. I'm interested in the chess set idea, but not right now. Of course, I couldn't make it out of something ordinary - it'd have to be something exotic like bloodwood & yellowheart.

when you're ready to explore baskets and chess sets let me know, I'm sure I can find a pattern or two for you.

Why don't you shoot me the chess set anyway. I know I'll want to do it in the future, and then I'll already have the pattern on hand. I honestly don't see myself doing the baskets.

juvy, you know that I am a pre-novice in scrolling! so may I ask if am correct in assuming that a jig is used when jointing with the scroll-saw and, for future reference since I print all your posts, if this is so, do you recommend a jig, please?
Bill.

avenger I have a pattern from a US forum, but can't remember which one it was from, designers name is JayP.... I hope she won't be upset if she sees it here.
Just in case..... I'll try to remember to remove it in a couple of days....
To make a 3D piece you glue the pattern onto the wood so the centerline is right on the edge. You cut the first side.... glue or clamp the piece together, then turn the wood and cut the second side.
Baskets are dead easy... sanding is what caused me most of the trouble.
Now Bill.... I'm not sure what you mean by jig.... when I do fingerjoints I just have a pattern .... you can just as easy draw your joints onto the wood like you do when you do them by hand.
I am attaching a pattern... you can of course enlarge it or make it smaller to your liking.
