Sneak Peek
Just a pic to show where I'm at on the JGR "Squirrel" on a bird feeder pattern done segmented style. It is finally all shaped and ready for color.
Will start coloring today and hopefully will have him colored, glued up to backer and lacquered sometime this week-end. He was cut from one board of 3/4" paneled aspen.

coloured? So you cut it from one piece of wood... bet that saved a lot of time trying to fit things. What I'd like to know... do you like it as much as the "real" intarsia when it's finished? Ken did a couple of fish before and we both still like them, even tho the intarsia folks like you would probably laugh.
What paint/dye are you going to use?
Love that squirrl.... did you know we don't have squirrls here? Miss the ones that used to come to my table out back to help themselves to our pecans! So much fun to watch them sit there and "chew" me out if there were none to be had! lol

Juvy, Know know if you know this but I have actually only done one actual intarisia project. All others that I have done I have done them segmented style....I shaped them as thou they are intarsia but they are all..(the eagle and the arabian plus all the others I have done) were done just like this squirrel...from one board..I am using white pigmented gel varnish, wood burst and min wax oil stains...plus black leather dye...Hubby is as always helping me pick the colors for it.

If it turns out like your other projects, it'll be practically indistinguishable from intarsia. You (and your hubby) have got the keenest eyes I know of when it comes to colouring woods.
It's looking very good so far.

actually Lin, I'm even more impressed with your work now... it's unbelievable how great you are making them look!!!!!
I agree with Gill!
Like usual I had thought living in the US you got your hands on all that great timber.... giving you all these fantastic colours..
It's really good to see what can be done without having to spend a fortune
