I don't know where I got it from but the vertical timber is 800 mm long. From memory I think there was a bill of materials hanging around for it which listed the length.
I gather this is the one you are talking about.

Farne, materials list is in the following scan.
FYI, I'd give some thought to the leg length, and customise it to your height and the chair you'll be using.
I found mine ended up a little higher than I'd prefer.
Also, consider having the back 3" or so higher than the front, I have a block of wood under the back leg of mine to achieve this and I prefer it.

Would depend if you are standing, sitting on a chair or stool. Make it at a height that is comfortable to you.

Many talk about having the back of the machine 100mm higher then the front and for that you can make that leg longer or pack up the back of the machine on the table top.
I used a 100mm x 100mm pack under the machine and it works fine on my flat workbench table top.
This does make the scrolling more easy to use and see the work being done.
Also I use a magnifying lamp but maybe I am just going blind with old age

Thanks every one - didn't slant the top but I have a sloping section...
Used jarrah - couldn't find hex head coach bolts 8mm x 125 or 150 so instead used CSK head baton screws, solid as a rock, can stand a 50c piece on the table of the Delta 540
