Default Is a surge protector necessary

I have a Carbatec 21” on order and I note that a surge protector is required. What is this and where do you get them?

Google it, far too many variations to list here, I am guessing the machine has some form of electronic circuitry.

I suspect it's the variable speed control electronics that have a sensitive component or two.

IMHO requiring a surge protector for a WW machine is a bit of a cop out.
Machinery should be sold in a state whereby they protect themselves from this sort of thing and points to inferior electronics being used.

All that aside, it's worth knowing that not all surge protectors are alike (some in fact do stuff-all) and I would definitely not be buying a "no-name brand" of protector.
I'd be looking for a reputable brand from a reputable store. Jaycar, Altronics, Bunnings will have them. Usually they come embedded in an expander board, Belkin, HPM or Arlec brands should be OK.

Something like this would be fine for a scroll saw
DA14 ARLEC Plug in Power Surge Protector Arlec, : Amazon.com.au: Electronics
And here's what appears to be the same thing with a different brand name
Click Plug In Adaptor With Surge Protection - Bunnings Australia
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks all. I reckon a cheapo one from Bunnies looks the goods at least I’ll be complying with their recommendations even if it’s not the full monty.
