Thread: What is everyone working on?

Stevo. Like the looks of your night light...anyway we can get you to take a pic of it lit up with the lights off.....did you use rice paper behind the cow?....like a lantern is done or how is it made?
Buzza, Ladies and cats huh? Myself I'm a dog lady but what ever the ladies want....go for it...I had great sales for about 1 year on pieces that included acrylic mirror....all customers were of the fairer gender...something about the shine that just caught their eye...I rode the boat till it died....still get an ocasiona order for it but not like it was for awhile....of course the price on the stuff going up a lot is partly to blame for that decline....
Skew, Sorry to here your saw has to be really re-vamp..to get it to do what you are after.....More sorry to hear your lady won't let you bring the lathe inside...but I have to admit....after making curlies on the lathe myself.....then having to clean up afterwards...I can understand her putting her foot down on it coming in the house door....need to put a little push on the guy to at least get your heat source working for you.....

What is everyone working on?
This thread is a good idea, but only a couple of pictures have appeared so far.
Lin, the "Tricks with mirrors sounds like a good idea to me, so I'm thinking up ways to utilise them in scenes.
Do women look into mirrors to check their appearances or to see what's going on behind them?
My Bar-B-Cue went well here in South Australia, and I had the chance to meet an "Okie From Muskogee" Oklahoma there, visiting here on a holiday.
Now where are those little mirrors?

Acrylic Mirror
I thought I'd pop a couple pic of some pieces I've done using the acrylic mirror. I use it as a background or a cut out either one. Come x-mas time I still sell several two-sided ornaments done from this stuff. These are all older pics. The last time I used mirror was as a backer for the Rocky Moutian Bear piece that I posted a couple weeks ago. That was the first time I had used it since doing x-mas ornaments with it. Don't know if the ladies like to look at themselves in it or the shine just catches there eye...ya know kinda like a diamond....

I prefer Lin's eagle clock. Not so much 'cos of the subject matter, as the wood tones and "ruby mirror" makes a stunning contrast. I assume it's just as effective in reality, Lin?

Juvy, Which is the basketball one you are refering to? The cheerleader is one I did for my grandaughter...
Skew, Over time I have found what colors look bast with what woods with this mirror thing....In reality....the pieces look much better than nay pic I can take of them...The mirror is hard to get a decent pic of. You just can't get the shine and the real look of it in a pic.
I attach the mirror when I use it as a backer or in the case of the two sided angels...with "super T" CA glue. You have to be really careful with the stuff but it works great on the acrylics.
I also do a ''Boy" and a "Girl" pattern and put the name and birthdate on it for customers that want them as a after the baby is born gift. I use cherry as the wood and blue or pink mirror as a backer for them.
Walnut looks the best with clear mirror cause its' such a dark wood...Oak likes the red the best but the black mirror looks good also....I have also done purple heart with yellow mirror behind it. Will scout thru my pics and post some more later...not quite enough time right now...Off to work I go.

Brett, Looking forward to your "Cocker Spaniel" pic. I haven't cut a portrait style cutting in awhile...Seems I've been getting orders for the larger items that take me forever to get done and can't be stack cut....
Here's a few more of the mirror pieces I've done in the past few years that I remembered to take pics of....The castle in the segmented dragon is cut from clear acrylic mirror....Not one of my best pieces...First try using leather dyes and my shaping wasn't what it is now.
The wedding silhouette is on of my top sellers. I cut three or four of these every year. Easy to cut and they look great from wlanut with the clear mirror as a backer. I have also done a couple from mahogany....They also look nice but my preference is the walnut.

A bit slower
Just getting back to it after changing the shape of my right hand with the table saw last November, almost finished a motorbike intasia from a Garnet Hall book. Third one of these I have made and this one has already be sold. It now takes a little longer though. vinnie

vinnie, glad you're back in business...even if it's a bit slower. TS can be nasty.....I myself have a fear of them and generally talk hubby into doing the cutting on ours for me.
Would really enjoy seeing the intarsia piece you are working on...some WIP pics would be great. I think its the same book I have and I'm not even close to being good enough to take a shot at that pattern.

Hi Lin. Have been cutting Jeff Zafinos patterns , family time , tight gate , village smithy ,old and new . Need to order some spiral blades 2/0 without the reverse teeth because with the reverse teeth it puts fuzzies on both sides of the wood .Am using baltic birch.
Buzza I cut that same cat pattern and never sold one. What material did you cut yours from?

Smitty, I take my hat off to you..cutting those patterns. I love the looks of them but can't find the time to jump on one of them....I really like the "Family Time" pattern and another he did of a "train"...can't remember the name but it is awesome looking. I can't seem to get the hang of the spirals so when I do the portrait style its flat blades for me.....Isn't there like 1200 cuts or so in "Family Time"?
