    Default For what it's worth

Things seem to have gone to sleep on the forum so I thought I would throw this one in.

I have found that putting baby powder on my scroll saw table gives a very smoth working condition. I havn't had any resedue on the job and if there is it hasn't caused me any trouble.

The silica in the baby powder can cause some conflicts in quite a few types of finishes , but if it ain't causing you any problems

was about to ask if it would interfere with estapol, mirror tone, oil or wax....
What finish did you try so far?

I only use oil on my work and sometimes I cover this with bees wax. As I said I havn't had a prbolem. I only put a very light covering of powder and brush off any loose wax before I start work. This seems to last for weeks.

How in the world would you put bees wax on scroll work?
I've yet to come up with the perfect finish for that... I like oil, but a lot of customer want shine... brushing estapol or mirror tone on can leaves too much in corners.... spraying can leave runs.... and makes a mess on the table.....

You will notice that I said "sometimes I use bees wax" the reason is that if there is fine work the bees wax gets into the work and glugs it up. If this hapens just a bit I can fix it with an old tooth brush.

If the job has largish flat surfaces the bees wax finish sets it off very nicely and gives a nice smooth siky finish.

If the job has fine detail it is unlikely that a bees wax finish will be felt by hand and the the low sheen is unlikely to be seen.
