Cutting formica benchtop for new cooktop
Hello, I am in the process of selecting a new cooktop for my kitchen. The old unit has developed an electrical fault and it is too expensive to repair. The old cavity is 563mm * 471mm. As I've never purchased a cooktop before I didn't realise that cut-out dimensions vary by manufacturer. It would be nice if the new unit just dropped in but I don't think it will be that easy. The new unit I am looking at requires a cutout of 560mm * 490mm. It might sound stupid but what is the best way to enlarge the hole? What type of blade should I use in the jigsaw and do I have to take any special precautions so as to not ruin the job. I'm worried that the formica surface will split in an ugly manner if the job isn't done correctly. Thanks, Graeme.
