Hi everyone,
I have been trawling these forums for some time now and have some great information. I am going to build a roughly 100m2 deck using merbau/kwilla at ground level next to the house and have decided to drill and screw using 10gstainless steel screws even though I understand it will take longer. I wondered if it was better to have hardwood or treated pine for the joists and bearers and if so what level of treatment. Timber QLD gives H3 for above ground and H5 in ground or low level, but the guys at Bunnings I seem to remember said H4. What is the difference and will it make a great difference in price?
I also wondered if it would be best to stick some liquid nails on the joists before screwing and someone mentioned slapping some preservative on the joist as well before laying the deck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mick
