Gap between pier and bearer
G'day all,
I was having a crawl under the house today, looking at the pier below where the floorboards have started creaking, and I noticed one of the piers has a gap of about 10 - 20mm between it and the floor bearer.
On closer inspection, the mortar in one corner of one side of the pier has come away from the brickwork and the pier column can be moved by hand, and is seems to be not attached to the base of the pier.
Is it normal for the pier column to be 'just sitting' on the base of the pier? If not, is this a hard thing to rectify?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.
