Will my house burn down???
Well - after more than 12 months of using the new kitchen - I think I may have made a significant blunder.
When I put my new kitchen in, I was going to use firecheck drywall behind the oven or use fibre cement to make sure the wall would not be heat affected by the oven.
Tonight I was helping my neighbour plan his re-sheeting in his new kitchen. The same issue was discussed for the oven and stove area .Then I thought to myself, hang on, what did I do???
Short answer: Nothing! I ended up being away for a couple of weeks - forgot about it and while I was away the new kitchen was installed. I checked the photos taken at the time of install and sure enough, I used in normal gyprock drywall.
I'm happy with the gas top as I have a SS splash back mounted on fibre cement fixed to the wall. But the oven space has nothing against the wall to insulate it against heat from the oven.
I am thinking I should remove the oven and just cut a piece of fibre cement board to go into the hole against the wall - that way I am sure it wont get heat affected over time.
So what is the thinking? Should I be worried about this?
cheers
Dave
