I just had some rendering done on my kitchen wall, and to fill in the chasing and holes around some new powerpoints. However the new render does not match the old. The new render looks rougher and feels quite quite rough when you run your hand over it, as if there was lots of sand in it, whereas the existing render is quite smooth. How can I get them to match better? Is it possible to lightly sand the new render? I didnt think so because the sand particles would be all the way through it. How can I match the new render to the existing? Is it possible the old render is smoother just because it has had a few coats of paint on it? Or could I spread a thin layer of top coat over the new render?

All advice greatly appreciated.
