Hi. We have just had a new deck built by a decking company and we are not happy with the attention to detail that they have provided. Our biggest concern is the number of splits in the merbau due to the use of a nail gun. Over the few days that it took them to build the deck we asked them time and time again to replace the split planks. They did replace the ones we pointed out by pre-drilling and hand nailing but we are still left with a deck full of splits, some very fine and some larger at the end of the plank. The atmosphere between us and the owner got very frosty after our attempts to improve their attention to detail which has left us feeling flat and disappointed with the whole experience and not to mention depressed at the thought that we still have to hand over thousands of dollars to pay for the job. What is the minimum that we should expect from a decking company? And if we're not happy and they refuse to fix the problems, who can we go to for help?
