Hi All,
Building a deck (aren't we all?). Am using bearers laid directly onto Pryda saddle posts (low deck) and wondering whether or not to leave a gap between the base of the saddle and the bottom of the bearer. Staines says a 12mm gap when installing posts into saddles to allow for problems with moisture. Does the same logic apply when the bearer is installed horizontally (obviously)? Should the vertical loads be taken up by the bolts through the stirrups or the saddle of the stirrup?
Sunny days are back, gotta get the deck done before Christmas!
Cheers.
