Which skim coat products to use?
Hi, I've recently moved from the UK to Australia so I'm not familiar with many of the products that are available - I'm hoping I can find some answers from this forum.
In the UK I did a "weekend warrior" type plastering course because I've always admired the plastering skill and wanted to learn and do something very far removed from my office cubicle job. I learned to plaster internal walls with 2 coats of skim plaster (brand name Thistle) that dried pink. It was very cheap and could be picked up in the local DIY store for 5 or 6 pounds (less than £20) for a 20KG bag, enough to cover about 9m squared.
I really enjoyed the challenge of learning to do it and would like to do some over here on walls of friends and family, but I can't seem to find a suitable product in the local DIY store. Skim coating internal walls doesn't seem to be something that people do over here, but I like the finish and the added impact resistance (and I don't have the patience for taping and sanding - I find it easier to spend half an hour skimming the whole wall and then walking away).
Can anyone help me out by telling me what make/brand of product I can use for 2 coat internal skim coat and what a reasonable price would be for 20KG?
Thanks.
PS - love the forum and the useful comments. This is going staright in the Favorites folder.
