I want to extend the balcony on our house. It is too narrow to fit a table on to sit around. According to local council the balcony can be 3m wide. I want to get a bit of an idea how much it would cost to extend and whether I can do it myself or if I need a professional. See photo. This is a very old photo, the landscaping and drive has been done now.

I just need to extend the front by another 1.2m but it looks like a lot of work.

I would like to remove the existing 2 centre beams from the front and put new ones 1.2m further out instead of keeping all the uprights. This would mean putting a supporting beam across the existing gutter line from the corner support to the side of the house, putting a support beam under the existing balcony edge from the corner support to the house, placing 4 new support beams across the front 1.2m further out, extenting the roof and putting new guttering, deck and put new railings.

I'm thinking it would be easy to leave the lower uprights and only remove the ones on top.

Any ideas would be appreciated. A lot of work but at least it would be functional at last.

Thanks, Scooter
