Thread: small contact areas, minimizing mess

I have a project in mind that will involved gluing 3mm wide strips of 7-ply hard maple (reclaimed and sawed skateboards). The contact areas are 70mm x 3mm. An example of the project (with a different application) can be found here:

That's a money clip. My project approximates the wood piece attached to the top of it.

I'm expecting some glue to come out of the joins when clamped. I understand it's best to wait for the glue to dry before trying to get rid of any excess that squeezes out of the joins. However it's critical that the glue doesn't stain the maple while it's drying.

I'm looking for advice on which type glue will suit this project, and any pointers on minimizing mess when gluing such small surface areas.
