    Default Difficulties Gluing/laminating Spotted Gum?

    Hi folks,

I am planning to build another workbench, this time from DAR Spotted Gum. The whole structure (top and legs) is essentially 2 layers of 30mm thick boards so quite a fair bit of laminating.

I have heard that it is difficult to glue up strongly, so I am wondering how it is best for me to doso.

Glues that I have available to me:

    - Titebond 3
    - West Systems epoxy

What would you suggest, and how would you go about laminating to ensure a rock solid joint?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Siggy

Titebond III would be fine. Wipe the wood down with acetone before gluing to remove any residue.

I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

I can say I’ve had a few headaches with spotted gum. But wiping acetone right before the glue up has given me perfect results. Unfortunately due to that I tend to stay away from it unless a client has specified it.

It is best to glue up a bench top in one thickness rather than two layers. Like this ||||||||||||. How wide are you'r 30mm boards.

Polyurethane glue is a better option for spotted gum. Due to the high silica content is why other glues fail.
