Default Which glue for laminating Tallowood

I have some Tallowood which i want to laminate for a variety of purposes.
To make a wooden Vice Thread and a Jointer Plane.
I am aware of its natural waxy properties
    Have others had success?

Haven't glued tallow wood, but other waxy woods have worked if wiped down with acetone just before gluing.

You are going to ask which glue next aren't you? If its just sitting there PVA wood glue will be fine. If it is bent lamination risosinol glue is best, cos you can dial in a bit of flex by adding PVA to it, and it won't creep. Epoxy doesn't have any flexability.

Good response TL. In the near(ish) future I'll be embarking on a benchbuild from the same TW that you just purchased, so am also interested in "which glue".

I have read a few people having no trouble with PVA glues, and they probably did as you suggested - acetone wipe.

Recently I did read about an Epoxy that does have some flex - I think it might have been on the LV site. I can check if you wish.

Just going back to the TW: I've got a piece like yours going to Terry Gordon to experiment with making a plane from. The greasiness is a bonus for that purpose. If it's successful then I will have a matching bench and planes - that's going to be a tough one to top in this stupid, but quite necessary boy's tool contest .

But you will loose your planes on the bench.

Default Which glue for laminating Tallowood

We had some large bench tops to glue up from tallowwood. We used a product called mega poxy. Its a two part epoxy but it is very thick and takes over night to fully cure.

On a side note, tallowwood turned by skin black :P

Never seen that Lee Valley stuff before - I wonder what chemistry it uses?

The other question is whether they are allowed to ship it overseas. Looks likely, as they normally note any restrictions on the product page.

    Thanks for the link

That just sounds like an excuse to make the planes out of lovely fiddleback Tallowood, "just so I can see them on the bench. Honest."

No Idea, but I'm tempted to get some myself next time. As for shipping LV will happily use surface mail, in fact my current lot is part air, part sea.
