Best Glue for Table Tops
Hi all,
Just wondering what the best glue is for Jarrah when making a tabletop? I find that I get movement lines done my joint lines. Is epoxy the way to go to stop this? Thanks

Yep. We just did a kitchen benchtop in Jarrah up in Darwin with black epoxy used in the mitred joins and as infill in faults. Looks great, sands and polishes and won't move. Mind you a cabinet maker might have a different opinion.

I just get the basic 5:1 clear epoxy and black tint. Mix in little plastic 60ml tubs ( a raisin size blob of tint) and use a disposable syringe to feed into cracks and holes. You can use thinner (never more than 20%) to reduce viscosity and get it into hairline cracks but I wouldn't worry with a table top, and you can use micro balloons (powder) as a filler to increase viscosity so it is easier to use as a glue. I used to get it from FMS (Fibreglass Material Service) but the last lot came through ebay at about 40% discount and seems to be identical to the name brand.

Techniglue and Botecote are two that come to mind. I use Techniglue, but bote cote is slightly more convenient to mix being 1:1.
Cheers

All I've ever used is good old Selleys Aquadhere and have never had a problem. And over the last few months I've been laminating Jarrah boards together for some desk/bench tops and cupboards all for my home office.

Any PVA glue will do. I use Titebond II. I buy 4L at a time because it is cheaper to buy bulk.

There are a couple of threads on which glues are the strongest for wood. The epoxy and polyurethane types were not as strong according to some tests done overseas. Most good glues will make a joint stronger than the wood itself but I would choose one based upon relative drying time, ease of cleaning off timber when its dried, strength, and whether the table is for indoor or outdoor use. For me its Titebond 111.

I use https://secure.international-coating..._M_5000280.htm
Epiglue looks to be the same as Techniglue that MicD uses, which is available from Carbatec.
I have been getting my Epiglue from Marine shops that sell "International" brand products.
