Some manufacturers of domestic ovens use glue to stick the door hinges to the metal inside face of the door, there's no mechanical fixing. When I replaced the hinges on my daughter's Electrolux Chef oven door the hinges were glued on. The glue was a relatively thick material that set hard, reminded me of exhaust putty. I suspect you'd need a relatively thick glue line so it may not be suitable. Worth a bit of investigation though.

We had the same problem many years ago, Paul, but we could not find a way to repair the lid.

Eventually, I bought a glass saucepans lid of the same diameter. My assessment:
    * Aesthetically - sub-optimal - I preferred the earthenware lid, but many friends liked the glass lid,
    * Functionally - even I agreed that the glass was better than the original lid; you can see the contents of the casserole.

The other alternative for you might be to commission a potter to make a replacement lid.

    Thanks Graeme

I will run the replacement lid option past SWMBO. I happen to have some thick stainless steel sheet too, although i accept this is departing significantly from the original aesthetic look.

    So there are 2 options:

1 Quick fix - followed by quick failure and SWMBO displeasure, possibly serious failure resulting in unfixable lid resulting in extreme SWMBO displeasure and the misery that accompanies such a situation. No winners.

2 Proper fix resulting in smiling SWMBO and the brownie points to go with that and can be cashed in later.

Its a clear decision Paul so do yourself a favour and follow Brad's advice. Deep down you know you really want to .

    Good luck with it.

Just on hold until next week. Probably leaning towards solution #2.
