Default help needed with what glue

    Hey guys and girls,
I am about to build a red gum bar and have been trying to decide what glue would be best suited for this project. The bar will stay underneath a pergola once it is finished.
Thanks in advance for any help

If protected from the weather, PVA is adequate. If moisture is potentially a problem, Titebond 3 is excellent, if a little expensive, but probably less expensive than epoxy, and more effective.

Or epoxy, as you can use it not only as a glue, but a crack/sap run filler and as a total finish and waterproofing solution!

    Default Tough stuff

    Hi guys,

what do you think about AV515, I have used this glue in a couple of external jobs and found it to be very tough stuff, waterproof, a bit like bullet proof polystyrene when dry.

    Just a thought...Oddjob1

    Hi Guys

With regarding some enquiries on types of glue.

I use several types of glue as I build boats. In most cases I use epoxy glue however I have had a lot of success with Fuller MaxBond PVA cross linking glue for areas above the water line, although being splashed by waves etc it holds on.

Before using this glue in this application on boats, to satisfy myself I glued 2 pieces of timber together and sunk them off my pontoon for several months, then when I retrieved them they were covered in marine growth, but testing the bond I could not separate the 2 pieces of timber.
I have been very happy using this product.

I first heard about this product when doing a boat building course at Tweed Community College on the NSW / Qld border.

As a matter of interest there is another course being held in September 2011 and enquiries can be made at the college on (07) 5524 8884 or you can contact me on 0413 262 272

    Regards
