Hide Glue
Hi - I am interested as a dark sider to explore the use of hide glue, plus the fact that it is non toxic has much appeal. I however wish to know if hide glue will not bond to certain types of wood, such as oily and resinous woods or very hardwoods like ironbarks.
Also does anyone know what the gram strength of ubeaut hide glue and is it suitable for joinery or is it more suited to veneering.

There is some information on the Ubeaut site.
If you follow those direction you get a strong bond. I expect it would suit most uses except laminating bent forms.
It has less strength if you dilute it too much or reheat it.
Paul Gregson has done some write ups of its use in the Australian Woodworkers Journal.
I have used it a bit and it works fine on joining boards and joints. Because I am not glueing things every day I find it inconvenient to heat up glue beads. So mostly I use other glues.
There must be other memers of the forum that have used it more extensively.
What do you want to be mostly glueing?Scally
