Will liquid hide glue bond to HHG
G'day all,
I'm fixing up a bureau at the moment and the sides of the writing slope/door have come off (very gentle persuasion with a paint scraper).
The remnant "glue" is very rough and crystally, so I am thinking hide glue.
Not having used hide glue before, I was going to use the liquid version, but want some advice re adhesion.

Liquid hide glue should adhere to anything that ordinary hide glue adhered to. The only difference between liquid and ordinary is the chemicals that liquid uses to keep it open without heat. That just affects whether you can use heat to re-trigger the glue later.
If you are interested in hide glue, I recommend Stephen Shepherd's book on the subject available from Tools for Working WoodCheers

If you use hot animal glue, then it will regenerate some of the old, dried out, crystalised animal glue (depending on how deep it goes).
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
