    Question Resorcinol Glue

Im wanting to buy Resorcinol glue (at least 20 Lt) for a large laminating project. Does anyone know of a supplier/s with 'fresh' stock anywhere in Australia?

Have you tried Nightingale Supply -Urea and Resorcinol, their product sheets states 12 months shelf life so i would be expecting they can supply fresh stuff.

    Cheers

Thanks Phil. I did buy from them awhile back but the stock I purchased was not guaranteed as being "fresh" so I returned it. They got mighty unhappy about that but I was not satisfied product I purchased was in date. The batch coding and DOM did not equate to fresh stock. It was vital that I got an iron clad guarantee and they could not do this. Ive tried other avenues in Australia, NZ, UK and USA and for a myriad number of reasons; I still cannot get resorcinol in Australia. MZ3 in Perth was my other option but again, the owner there has been unable to buy in small enough raw material quantities in order to continue making resorcinol. for now, im planning on using West System epoxy but my preference is resorcinol.

You realise that epoxy doesn’t like high clamping pressure, migrates out of joints. Urea was the choice for wooden water skis for that reason. Nightingale is a company that has been around for a while and has done extensive testing of their products. I cut thousands of test pieces of ply for them in the late 80s early 90s.
I haven’t bought any glue from them lately but a mate who did the marquetry for Parliament House still uses their glue and gives me some when I need it.

We always bought from Nightingale too. We used about 20 litres per month at times, so I guess we were getting fresh product then also. You could try asking the guys who build the tiger moth biplanes at Rutherford NSW, they use it for the planes, the old man used to do a bit for them but I am not sure who to contact, I’ve PM ‘ed you a number to start with, good luck.

yes I know how to manage epoxy glue laminations and the pressure required to get a good stable join. I am experienced in both epoxy and resorcinol glue joins.
I also know Nightingale have been around for a number of decades. However that and their past practices in "testing" did not equate to ensuring the customer (in my case) was given an iron clad guarantee the product was a fresh/in date batch. It is vitally critical this information is made available to the consumer and a number of other international and domestic suppliers will go to great efforts to reassure the customer in this regard. I guess its akin to ensuring there is no legal comeback from the customer if they can prove the batch is "in date".

I appreciate your input but it doesn't help if the managers at the time were not willing to assist the customer in this regard. I haven spoke with a number of industrial suppliers who can sell me 200 Lts (at a bare minimum) but thats just way too much more than I need and would cost me a couple of thousand dollars!

I would be happy to purchase from Nightingale again but there is just too much at stake if the glue fails because Ive been sold a batch that is out of date. The attitude to my requests to get to the bottom of why I was sold defect product left me feeling their business model was "take it or leave it".

This mob in Melbourne do resorcinol TimbaTech Products - TimbaTech Pty Ltd (scroll down to Specialty adhesives)
We used their PVA and PU glues at work and were very happy with their service.
