    Default Suitable glue for pens.

Hello to all this is my first venture into the forum for help.
I have only had a lathe since last September and have been dabbling in platters and the odd bowl.
Now I am starting on pens and have just finished the fifth one from a set.
My query is this.I am using polyurethane glue to set the tubes into red siris(MackayCedar). Is this glue satisfactory for long term durability or is there a better one.

    G'day Robert,
I have had good luck with Sumo glue (another polyurethane). A lot of folks like to use 2 part epoxy. Both work great for filling voids. The majority of the time I use thick CA. Would love to see pics of the pens you have done.

    Cheers,

    Rick

Superglue or 2 part epoxy are your better choices for tubes.

I use poyurethane to good effect. I've never had one fall apart (yet).

I'm using Gorilla glue which works fine here without the mess of 2 part epoxy or the CA. Still use CA if I am in a hurry though .

I've heard it can push the tubes out as it is foaming up but haven't run into that myself.

    Default Sticky Question

Again, I put in my "two bob's worth" (doesn't that expression date you!) for good old WeldBond, the best thing to come out of Canada since Moose Milk.

It behaves & cleans up just like PVA, but will glue just about anything (a hammer to glass is a favourite demo) and avoids all the mess and toxic nastiness of epoxys/polyurethanes/cyanoacrilates. Sure, it's best to let it set for 24 hrs, but that's a matter of planning rather than a disadvantage, given its reliability.

Just remember to always rough up the surface of your brass tubes, regardless of the glue you use.
