for example titebond III
473ml $8.99 ($14.00 at Carbatec)

There might be a few other sellers that will have to look at their selling prices as well.

I would say that Masters buy in bigger quantities than the Big C therefore would be getting at a cheaper cost. Good to see they're passing on the saving if so

That's amazing. I bought aquadhere outdoor 4 l from bunnings for $55.
I haven't had the courage to go to masters yet as the only store nearby is at springfield, and (apart from it being springfield) it looks like you have to park 3 or 4 kms away on the side of the road.

There have been similar prices available for a few years now. There is an online hardware supplier based in Adelaide who has very similar prices, perhaps $1-2 more for the larger bottle but still a good price, and I am sure they would not have the same buying power as Masters.
Now proudly sponsored by Binford Tools. Be sure to check out the Binford 6100 - available now at any good tool retailer.

I Googled Titebond. Got to the article describing the tests done by Case Western Reserve University for Fine Woodworking Magazine. Six adhesives from yellow carpenter's glue, hide glue, epoxy polyurethane. Oak and maple joints. Tight, average and sloppy fits. Titebond was the worst of the bunch, no contest.
Elmer's Yellow Carpenter's glue was the best (whodathunkit?).
I use a lot of EYCG, not buying Titebond after the data I've seen. Garbage glue.

I read that differently Robson. Titebond III top, epoxy second, ordinary PVA third. The only real shock was polyurathane which were a long way behind. However, it depends greatly on the wood and quality of joints. price is a different matter.

I stand corrected & corrupted. Thanks for the link. I lost it between the brand names and the data chart. I'll carry on with the yellow carpenter's glue = I'm happy just as long as the dang thing doesn't come apart.
Application = larger 60-100cm wood carvings where I can't possibly find wood big enough to waste enough to do the thing in one piece. Principally, Raven bird beaks. Soon, a sea turtle head. The glue up for the Halibut platter.
I suppose when you need a joint to take a load, TB is a little better. A chair for those fair maidens who look like two pigs fighting in a bag from either the North or the South.

The difference in performance isn't really great so stick to what you prefer.

I went to Masters today. Original Titebond Red was less than $5.00 for 473 ml and $17.90 for three litres. The Titebond II Blue was $6.03 for 473ml and $20.00 for three litres. I got some. They also sell Gorilla glue. I think Masters is a winner. Clean and tidy. Helpful staff and nice straight timber. It leaves Bunnings for dead. I spoke to a bloke (staff) who said new stores were opening all over the suburbs and they plan to get more in the tool and machinery range. I will only go to Bunnings now as last resort and Mitre 10 behind that.
