    Default Unbonding CA glue

Can anyone suggest how long it takes for Acetone to break the bond between CA and steel?

I have managed to glue the brass tube to my brand new (first use) pen mill, and it ain't goin' nowhere

I was able to remove the blank with some judicious wielding of a hammer.

I am hoping that the CA will use the voids provided by the fluting on the drill part and that capillary action will do the rest.

    Suggestions?

I feel stupid enough, so there's no need to rub it in!!!!!!

    Cheers,
    Alan

I did the same thing once. Just let it sit in a bowl of acetone for an hour or two. Give it a shake and a stir every 5 or 10 mins. I will just slide apart when it is ready.

Another thing that I have also done is hold it firm in a vice and use a pair on long nose pliers to slowly peel the brass tube off. Its a little bit frustrating and dangerous to the delicate skin of the the hands but its a more proactive thing compared to sitting and waiting.

Another thing comes to mind, are you using industrial acetone or nail polish remover? Nail polish remover dosen't work as well as industrial acetone.

    Yikes!

That's the sort of thing I could imagine myself doing. Another reason I'm using Poly glue instead of CA - gives me a little more breathing space.

As stated above, I'd just let the whole thing soak, don't just pour it on and hope - submerse the whole tube.

Funny timing, as I just got home and bought my first bottle of acetone, even though I'm not using CA yet, as I figure the time I did use CA and not have Acetone, something would get stuck.

I have found acetone does not remove CA from skin too well either . But I found a small plastic bottle of CA remover at Mitre ten that works on skin ,well at least my tough old skin hehe.Good luck ,the CA is hard and brittle once set so you should win in the end, another reason I prefer the polyurethane glue it can move better with the wood as things age and settle .
