    Question 1/4" to 1/2" collet adapter?

    Hi,

    I have a couple of routers with 1/4" collets. Do they happen to make a 1/4" to 1/2" collet adapter? Or do I jut need to bit the bullet and get a new router with a 1/2 collet? I see they make one that handle both sizes but thought I would ask first.

    The reason you don't see them is because it's a very risky operation.
    The forces on a chuck with 1/4" shank from a 1/2" bit is likely to snap the 1/4" shank.
    I have heard of this being done by taking a 1/2" router collet extension, (or an ER20 CNC chuck and a 1/2" collet ie expensive) and turning the shaft down to 1/4" on a metal working lathe - again not recommended.

    I figured this might be the case. I went ahead and ordered a Porter Cable router with a 1/2" & 1/4" collet.
