Do you have a 1/4 or a 1/2'' router.
Hi there,
Do you use a 1/4 or a 1/2'' router. Both, one or none.
Thanks Ben

2 x 1/2, 1 x 1/4. The 1/4 is used for edge trimming, one of the 1/2 has a roundover bit permanently installed, the other 1/2 is used for anything else. Plus a table mounted 1/2 for the big scary bits.

Yep, 2. A 1/2" Hitachi TR12 for hand held and a 1/2" Triton TRA-001 permanently mounted in the r/table.

The simple answer then would be 1/2" as it can take 1/2" bits (naturally) and with a 1/4" collet it can take 1/4" bits, a 1/4" router can only take 1/4" bits.

I replaced my cheap 1/4" router with a decent Makita 1/2" router. If you're only going to have one then a 1/2" is the best option.

The ½" machine, when used with the correct inserts, allows all standard and European cutters, except 12mm, to be used. The quality and suitability of the inserts are key, however, as they will always be second-best to a dedicated collet.
