Thread: 1/4" Bits

Are you unable to get the bit you are using in 1/2"? I avoid 1/4" like the plague and 1/2" is normally only a few cents more for equivalent size.
I know sometimes it is impossible.
Sympathise entirely with your shed situation. I use the garage but have to clear out the vehicles soen flying big bits don't damage the ducco. Planning a shed, but SWMBO requires bathroom before shed as we have discussed in other posts.
Seems my priorites are very different to hers. Do you think she could be from Venus or maybe Pluto snce it was deregulated?

Yeah - that's the one. Single flute too. Ah well, it was only $12 (and it is still useable in my laminate trimmer)
Actually, for the job I'm doing, it was only about a mm small (2 passes reqd), as I only want to capture the head of a T bolt so it can't rotate. The one I have gotten from Carbatec looks to be a better choice (and 2 flute), and it looks to be prety much spot on for size. I say those others, but 28mm T slot means the bolt would be free to rotate.
Thanks for looking into it for me
I could have gotten a 1/2" from CMT, but it was more than I was prepared to spend this time around. The dimensions of the Carbatec bit are pretty much spot on for this job, and it seems like a nice bit (for a 1/4") It is only the 2nd or 3rd that I own (out of about 40 or so), so I can afford to put up with a couple of 1/4" ones!
As to shed vs (every other ####ing job under the sun), I have the same problem (and I'm sure we are not the only two!)"Clear, Ease Springs"

Well the 1/4" 2 flute keyhole cutter from Carbatec worked like a bought one, so I was able to salvage the UHMW. It's pretty ugly back there, but it doesn't have to see the light of day, so I'll do a McCartney, and "Let it Be"
Haven't had a chance to, but I will run a micrometer over both shafts to see if that was part of my problem. Moving on though - more important things to think about.
So how's the bathroom vanity coming on Paul? Installed those T slots in it?"Clear, Ease Springs"

I use alot of 1/4" shank cutters in my guitar building....right down to 2mm diameter cutters. I run them in a Trend T5 with a 1/4" collet. All my cutters are sourced from http://www.apworkshop.com.au/ and havent had any problems with them. Prices are fairly reasonable and service is good.

I only use 1/4" on my wee Bosch for fluting. Anything else is 1/2". What is it about wimmin and bathrooms? Maybe Venusians / Plutonians are obsessive / compulsive?
