    Default 11.25deg chamfer router bit

Hey, looking at getting an 11.25deg chamfer bit.

looked everywhere but can only find it at carbatec, its a CMT bit for about 70ish. Is there anywhere i can pick up a cheaper one, i have looked on various sites with no luck.

i just want a cheaper one, incase i dont end up using it.

    thanks

I saw an article in a magazine recently where they showed a method to change the effective cutting angle of a chamfer bit. In their case I think it was to get a 22.5 degree chamfer using a 45 degree bit.

Basically just make a timber wedge of the appropriate angle, and attach to one side of your router base plate (double-sided tape would do)

For 11.25 degrees I guess you could cut a wedge at this angle (those Wixey digital angle setting doodads ARE useful...), then use a straight edge trimming bit. With the router chocked up at an angle you couldn't use a bearing bit, but just set the fence to give the desired amount of chamfer.

Just checked Carbitool for the bit, but they only have 10 degree by the look of it. Probably wouldn't be far off the price of CMT anyway.....

I bought a range of different angled bits from Woodcraft about two years ago, including 11.25 deg. These are Woodriver green coated bits, and I suspect that they were a clearout sale but check www.woodcraft.com just in case it was a normal special rather than a closeout. Was about US$12 plus postage.

This one at AP Workshop might be what you are looking for. I've bought quite a few bits from them, and a good experience each time.

Des - thanks for that AP Workshop link.....makes it easier to buy Carb-i-tool bits than dealing with them direct.

I've bought from Carb-i-tool in the past, but they aren't set up for online trading so you have to call to check prices, etc.

Very happy with the quality of the Carb-i-tool bits, and I'll certainly be buying them again.
