Thanks for the offer Ray. I got an email back from them and they do ship here. It costs about 9 pound to post by air mail. I think I've almost exhausted my options here, so I might see what else they've got in their catalogue and place an order while the dollar is up.

I could go the 1/4" route but if I get a 5mm bit, it makes it easier because the 5mm pins are common as muck.

Just thought I'd add a postscript. After a fruitless search for an Australian supplier, I ended up placing an order with Wealdon Tool Company two weeks ago. Items arrived today. With the good Australian dollar, it didn't cost me much more than similar bits sell for here. I took the opportunity to grab a couple of other items as well. Great service.

So thanks for the tip Ray.

Trying to answer the question for myself in the hunt for 5mm bits suitable for shelf pins.....

Festo on 8mm shank called dowel drills (3,5,6,8,10mm) for $50-75 made for routers.
    eg HW S8 D5/30 Z

Carbatec sells the CMT industrial TCT boring bits on 8 and 10mm shanks made for boring machines. These have adriving flat which presumably could cause vibration problems in a router without a bush with a driving flat.
    Industrial Boring Bits : CARBA-TEC
CMT also does solid carbide upcut spiral 5mm on 8mm shank (191.850.11) at least in Europe.

    USA 1/4" shank bits:
    MLCS solid carbide router bits
    Woodhaven
    Woodhaven 15202 Solid Carbide 5mm Spiral Up-Cut Bit : Spiral Up-Cut Bits
    Whiteside
    Buy Whiteside RU1805 5Mm Solid-Carbide Up-Cut Spiral Router Bit 5Mm Diameter 5 8 Cut Length 1 4 Shank at Woodcraft

Several companies make reducing collets of varying sizes:
    CMT from Carbatec
    799 - Router Collet Insert : CARBA-TEC
Whiteside in USA from Amazon, etc

If you need it in Australia in a hurry....
8mm collet insert by CMT from Carbatec + Festo bits on 8mm shank
