Hi. I have read the above chapter a number of times...and..I don't get it..well some of it.

She says start by making a master pattern - an exact copy of what you want.

Use a washer with a 1/4" difference between od & id and trace around the master pattern with pencil cut sand & we have a master template 1/4" bigger than the Master Pattern. So far so good.

So to make working templates for the left & right curves she cuts a piece of mdf in two using a 3/4" bearing on a 1/4" bit following the template just produced.

Now as far as I can see this takes the resulting curve out by another 1/4" (inside of cut) and the other piece will be a complementary curve out by 1/2"

Then use the same bearing & bit setup to cut a template from the complementary piece. So this takes the complementary curve back by 1/4".

OK so the two templates complement each other curve wise...but..they're 1/2" bigger than the original master pattern as far as I can tell...which was made to be exact size of what we want...

OK..what am I missing here?
