    Default Bead & Cove sets

    Hi,

I am about to start making a strip-planked kayak, and the general way of edging the strips is to bead and cove them to ensure a snug fit as they curve around the hull form (and a lot easier than planing each one to a matching angle).

So, I need a bead and cove set. I have only seen one in the recent Carba-Tec catalogue, designed for 6.35mm thick slats:

    http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/ind...40_17360_18220

Given I'll be using 3.5mm thick strips, does the radius of the set matter? With the 3.5mm strip it's only going to put a very small curve on each surface. Which may be OK as the curve won't be too tight.

So...does the radius of the cut matter greatly, or does anyone know of smaller radius bits?

    Thanks,
    Darren

    Hi,

Thanks Keith, but they need to be a cove and bead set where they have a matching concave and convex bit that allows the two bits of wood to sit together.

    Regards,
    Darren

the Freud pro catalogue lists bead and Cove cutters but there is no matching cove and bead like you are looking for TK1.

    Hey Darren,

I've ordered from them before and the service was great - the shipping though I believe is more expensive than it used to be

    Ciao,

    M.

I use this company most frequently. I have had excellent service; they have sent defective bits and have replaced them with no problems. However, I live in the United States where shipping is free. However, I have no idea what the shipping costs are to Australia.

There is a bead and cove set available from One Ocean Kayaks, I am considering purchasing, but at the moment trying to find some one here I can buy the milled timber from. This is the page from Ocean One http://oneoceankayaks.com/Material.htm#bitanch
