Default Bosch GOF 1600 CE availability or alternative

I had the Bosch GOF1600CE on order from Sydney Tools back in July with an initial delivery date of early August. This then became December and I've just been advised Bosch have discontinued this router and it cant be supplied.

I'm pretty annoyed as Bunnings had stock at the time but it didn't include the fence which I thought would be handy but not essential as I already have the rail system and router sled.

The main attraction of the Bosch was its ability to adjust height from above when table mounted with the plunge router base which I had already acquired using bonus points from Bosch trade night.

So I guess my question is does anyone know of any stock out there for this router (I've done the ring around of usual suspects) and if not is there an alternative solution for a router that can table mounted with top adjustments and reasonably powerful ie =>1600w and under $800 all up?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, hard to find one isn't it. There's a fella on Gumtree who has one for sale though:

I just saw that one about 5 minutes ago! If it was local I'd be keen but a bit reluctant to buy sight unseen with associated shipping risks.

I have the Makita RP2301FC which I plan to mount when I finally get round to building a router table.

That's a nice router, I have a 3600BR and previously use it under a Triton table but it's a pain to adjust height bits etc.
Are you going to install a router lift if so which one?

I tried them a couple of weeks ago, they have no stock and Bosch can't supply, you can add the item to cart and pay but it will be cancelled

Nah, I'll just use a drill to adjust the height like in the video to keep things simple, some things you just have to compromise on I guess but the Makita has some serious grunt so I'm not worried.

Any reason you wouldn't entertain the idea of a Triton TRA-001. They can be adjusted from above the table and has plenty of power.

That is a question I have been asking myself, but given the posts about electrical gremlins (electronic speed control) I'm still looking.

I haven't heard of anyone who has brought one in recent years having the problem. Hopefully they found the issue and rectified it some years ago. I had the problem on my MOF001 when it was fairly new. I left it for a few years in the back of a cupboard before taking the risk of getting another speed controller after some owners said they replaced theirs and it failed again. I think mine has been in there for about 10 years now and still going strong.

I'd considered this a while ago and at the time noted quite a few bad reviews, not just about speed control but general quality and lack of QA, so lost interest.
Current reviews seem a bit better but not great compared to the German made Bosch (according to Sydney Tools) and made in Japan Makita which is the one I'm currently leaning towards if I cant find a Bosch.

If the Bosch truly is discontinued then I've got to wonder what if anything is going to replace it? I've asked TotalTools etc but no one seems to know and realistically any new product would probably be months if not years away.

As a current Triton TRA-001 owner (having been through one MOF-001 which died).....I'd recommend the Makita (Japan) if you can't get the Bosch.

Triton quality is very dodgy these days IMHO.

I also looked at the Triton but at the time the Makita was way better quality. This thread got me thinking about buying the parts to make a router table so last night I got the Makita out and took the base plate off to see what I need to get it mounted. The manual tells the user to insert the included M6 135mm threaded rod into the base of the router. I was a little worried as it states:

"When using the tool with a router table available in the market, using this screw allows an operator to obtain a small amount of adjustment of the depth of cut from above the table.

I took that as it only has a limited range of movement! (Plonker). In actual fact you get the full range of movement then some with the base plate off!. It just means it moves as fast as you turn the screw like all machines which run up and down on a threaded rod. Again, the quality is impressive and very robust. The manual suggests adding some grease on the M6 rod which would
make the action even smoother, not that it needs it.

To be perfectly honest I'm not sure why anyone would need to buy a router lift for it, my only concern would be stripping the M6 135mm Pozi-drive head, however there's no torque so its unlikely. Maybe someone might have a suggestion of improving the height adjustment by replacing the M6 135mm rod with something else?, a dial or lever of some sort perhaps?.

Until I watched some of that video I wasn't aware the Makita had a useful range of adjustment from above the table so that's very interesting.
Its an amazing video and I'd be keen to get the plans but was a bit unsure about the Japanese translations required. Have you purchased the plans or intend to do so? If so are they complete and easy to follow assuming some WW experience?
