cheap router speed controller?
This is probably an insane question.
Can you use the speed controller on a home cooling fan to control the speed of a router?
If not (and I suspect that is the case), can anyone recommend where to get a controller that I do not have to put together myself (I'm not interested in kits).
Thank for any replies.

It's a Hitachi T12 I think, I don't have it close by to check the model number but I think it is T12. It's about 30+ years old (and it looks like going for at least another 30+ years), and it's green.

I'm guessing that, fans being only 50-100 watts or so, the variable speed switch on a fan wouldn't be up to the task of running a 1500watt motor, and you'd probably be in danger of frying the switch. If you could find a variable speed switch from a bigger appliance, that might be the go.

I recall that Jaycar sell some kits for various speed controllers, though I havn't tried them out. The issue with the typical fan controllers is they don't allow for the large amperage of the router.
